Journal of Virtual Studies
Vision
The Journal of Virtual Studies aims to create a medium that encourages continual renewal of what a virtual space for learning is and how virtual spaces can be best used in multiple educational contexts.
This journal considers a virtual space to be broadly defined as one that extends the learning space, opening up new forms of interaction and communication, based on technological innovation that does not limit the creative potential of the instructors, nor their students.
Mission
Our mission is to provide a peer-reviewed multimedia publication that showcases papers and multimedia productions describing research, program implementation, the conceptual that feature education for all ages in virtual spaces as areas that:
- Provide multimodal platforms that stimulate learning
- Consider the human element of interaction, both simulated and real
- Break barriers to education through spaces of innovation
- Nurture and prepare learners for continually changing digital literacy demands
- Encourage new means of assessing learning within authentic contexts
Categories
The editorial staff welcome submissions of articles and multimedia for upcoming issues of the Journal that fit within the Journal’s mission and vision. Submissions under any of the three categories outlined below will be considered for publication.
For research papers or multimedia, certain criteria need to be met in order to be considered for publication. To ensure ethical conduct of the researcher, the submission must include evidence of Institutional Review Board (IRB), or similar entity, approval for conducting research with human subjects. Where no IRB approval was needed, an explanation or justification should be included, if human subjects were involved. Please note that some studies that involve human subjects may be considered exempt under the official guidelines of your institution or organization, so you may be asked to provide a link or document that demonstrates this.
We accept research methodologies considered qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods, as long as you provide a clear and specific data collection and analysis procedure. Research considered for publication should also include a well-developed literature review of relevant and recent (excepting seminal works) empirical research on your area of study.
For papers or multimedia that deal in praxis, certain criteria need to be met in order to be considered for publication. Praxis is the enactment of theory, strategies, frameworks, etc., in education practice. Submission of praxis would describe situations of effective practice being applied in an innovative way.
These submissions would describe what happened, outline a clear and detailed procedure for application or implementation, at the course or program level, as well as, the lessons learned from it, including potential implications for wider implementation or application.
For papers in the conceptual category, certain criteria need to be met in order to be considered for publication. Conceptual submissions are introspective discussions that attempt to delve deeply into a topic or that expand an existing theoretical construct. These may be philosophical or epistemic in nature, which provide thoughtful conceptual deconstruction of theory, which leads to broader social implications or new ideas in research or praxis.
Submissions should include some literature or theory from which to ground the conceptual, though it does not need to be as extensive as a literature review for a research study. The focus should be on thoughtful introspection or extension of concepts guided by a general thesis that reaches some logical conclusions.
